Everyday is Sunday

The first episode of this OVA series, itself less than a half hour, may not be enough to judge this series, but it looks promising. This light police drama and love comedy tells the tale of Tashita Yumi a 22-year-old rookie cop fresh from the academy. She has a chance re-encounter with a chance high school encounter, and in both times she mistook the man for a felon. He is in fact Ichidaiji Toru, a sly stage magician with whom she becomes fast friends, and a date leads them to catch a crook, leaving Yumi looking forward to solving crimes with Toru and whatever else may blossom between them.

Everyday is Sunday (Mainichi ga Nichiyoubi) has a charm in its everyday-life, sitcom-like simplicity. It's a welcome break for those immersed in more serious and fantastic genres. It has many refreshing aspects, such as a romantic comedy about young adults instead of teens, or lead characters that are not resentably over-attractive.

The first OAV was produced in 1990. There are at least six episodes, and it is based on a manga by Takada Yuuzo, creator of 3x3 Eyes and All-Purpose Cultural Cat-Girl Nuku Nuku. Although I can't find any real information web sites, here is a description from the Anime Web Guide and a review from the SciFi site.
